Nice to Meet You - a letter from our Founder, Diane Donis

I was born and raised in Brockton, MA in 1985 – and moved to Miami Florida in 2003. I graduated from Barry University, Miami Fl, with a degree in Business Management. I am blessed to spend every single day as the mother to a beautiful young lady named Nalayah Donis, and like many of you reading, I don’t know where I’d be without my family and my faith.

I fell in love with the HR Industry in college – a course called Intro to Human Resources. I was in my Junior year, and hadn’t come across my passion just yet. My main goal has always been to help others and bridge gaps, and I was having trouble finding that intersection. As soon as I got a glimpse of the HR World, I knew that it was exactly where I was meant to be.

I had the distinct honor of starting my corporate HR Career surrounded by the compassionate, brilliant leaders at Target. The real privilege of working with talented people is that they show you the talent you have within yourself. The world opens up in a unique way when you discover your gift. During my tenure at Target I discovered exactly what it is I bring to the table: my ability to relate on an authentic human level with my team and my superiors.

What most people don’t realize is that HR is an open door to a unique, multi-faceted career. The chief concern and mandate of human resources is the sole thing every single industry has in common: people. I moved on from Target and took a position within the Medical Industry – working for Mercy Hospital as an HRBP.

As life would have it, I had to take a detour from my corporate career for the sake of focusing on my closest people – my family. But anything is possible when you accept the things you cannot change. I have come down a long, and varied road: caretaker for my dad who was battling cancer, entrepreneurship, networking marketing, even project management - but in the end, it led me back to HR.

Our purpose appears to us in pieces throughout our lifetime, and I wouldn’t alter a single decision I’ve made if it would keep me from being right here, right now. Whatever you’ve been through, be it good or bad, it's all a part of the picture. What matters most is your ability to take the lessons you’ve learned and allow them to shape your future.

Human Resources Operating Creatively is so named in honor of all the professionals in our industry who have always been capable of doing just that. HROC is a new opportunity for all of you to bridge more gaps and help more people, all while reinvesting in yourselves.
